A Genuinely Happy Holiday!

A Genuinely Happy Holiday!

As I’ve gotten older, I have wished less for things and more for memories and experiences with loved ones. I’ve wished that political madness would just come to a screeching halt, I’ve wished for health for myself and my family, I’ve wished for old and new relationships to deepen, and I’ve also wished for that perfect… Read the Post »

Welcome

Welcome

Hi there! I am a first time mom, a trauma surgeon, and a wife, a friend, a daughter. I’ve had enough of all the judging and here to remind you (and myself) that you are enough. I’ll share the trials, errors, and successes of being a working mom while mixing in bits of fun.

Because I know we all have things to get off our c Because I know we all have things to get off our chest. And this is one of my favorite threads in a group over on Facebook.

What drove you crazy this week? Or this last year? Or even just this minute? People? A situation? Kids?

Take the space and time to let it go right here.

And know that I’m here for it.
No makeup. Just unwashed hair, fresh from a facia No makeup.

Just unwashed hair, fresh from a facial.

Literally no BS.
Because I am SICK of the BS.

Sick of belief in conspiracy theories.
Sick of belief in an authoritarian.
Sick of the lack of accountability.
Sick of the comparisons that are inadequate at best.
Sick of the attack on experts and those that experience things firsthand.
Sick of those standing up for bullies.
Sick of the excuses for poor character.

Stop putting on a facade of being a good person and start doing the things that back that up.
Now more than ever... It’s important to take ca Now more than ever...

It’s important to take care of yourself.

Don’t skip the workout. I know it’s mentally exhausting right now. But once you get started you’ll realize how much your mind needed that physicality to enjoy a good break.

Put on your favorite leggings (these are like butter and I have them in 3 colors now...if the shoe fits), get your wig on, and get your life together. Thank you @codyrigsby for keeping us motivated.

But seriously. Don’t give up on yourself when you feel like giving up on those around you. Make room for you—in your schedule and among the craziness.

We are enjoying some snow here in Texas, but that’s still not an excuse to get moving.

Let’s go people. We’ve got work to do. And you have to start with you.
There are good people. There are good things. But There are good people. There are good things. But pretty walls, pretty furniture, and a working AC don’t keep a home standing.

I know you’ve seen a lot of us say this, but if 11k of you are still listening to me, then I will continue to use my platform to attempt to change myself and my community at the same time.

This is us.
Stop denying it.
Stop the complacency.
Even if it’s one person at a time, we’ve got a lot of damn work to do.
Vaccinated. Me and all my friends (RBG and Fauci) Vaccinated.

Me and all my friends (RBG and Fauci) are pumped about science working at the kind of pace it of which it is capable.

My husband may be laid up with fever, chills, and exhaustion 24 hours after his dose, but that didn’t even remotely make me question showing up for my dose today. I’m just excited to be sitting here being monitored for any immediate reaction. I’m just excited that we WILL catch up at some point. It makes what’s happening right now easier to handle. 1/3 of our hospital admissions are for COVID. Our hospital is functioning beyond capacity. We have almost doubled our ICU beds. We are tired and we are still very scared for what is to come for the general public. Whenever you get the vaccine, please do so. In the meantime, stay home. Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Socially distance as much as possible. I’m hoping by spring break we will finally see a downturn in numbers. But right now we are on a 3rd, much steeper, much higher climb despite all that modern healthcare has to offer over what we had to offer in 1918. Despite all the advances of 20th century medicine, we have still lost over 350,000 lives in less than a year. (A little over half of the lives we lost to the Spanish Flu when we had no medical specialities, no residencies, no widely available IV fluids or oxygen, no ventilators, no antibiotics, when hand washing wasn’t exactly widespread, no steroids, no antivirals...)

How it started... and how it’s going. That firs How it started... and how it’s going.

That first picture was taken almost 11 months ago. When our @onepeloton arrived, before the pandemic was really a thing.

That second picture was yesterday. A round of @fasterwaytofatloss, almost 250 workouts on the bike, running, walking, yoga, meditating, boot camp, and @eattoperform for the last 4 months—with which I have been far from a saint.

It took a year from giving birth to find MY body again. The first time around it took about 6 months. This time I had a pandemic, kids at home, a nanny on maternity leave, a move (x4), and life to deal with and I still made it.

2020 can’t take that from me. And whatever happens in 2021, I’m at least physically ready for it. And all that exercise has prepared me mentally, been my “fix” on low days, and helped me find my confidence again.

What are you refusing to let 2020 take from you as we start this new year?
