The Mirror Will Change Your Home Workouts Forever

The Mirror Will Change Your Home Workouts Forever

Like a lot of moms, I continue to struggle to make it to the gym with a little one. Her schedule seems to perfectly coincide with all the class times that I could even try to consider. So I’ve been trying to make working out at home more of a priority. I was lucky enough to… Read the Post »

It’s Good to Be Back

If you follow along, you’ll join me on a journey of finding a new side-gig as a physician (will it just be this blog, investments, or some other crazy idea?). You’ll join me in debating “part-time” work vs “full-time”, when and where to travel, the ups and downs of becoming a first time mom

Hi there! I am a first time mom, a trauma surgeon, and a wife, a friend, a daughter. I’ve had enough of all the judging and here to remind you (and myself) that you are enough. I’ll share the trials, errors, and successes of being a working mom while mixing in bits of fun.

Also did you know that tomorrow’s date is a palindrome and Inauguration Day wouldn’t fall on a palindromic date for another 1000 years.

Tomorrow’s a meaningful day for all of us.

We can’t just look the other way. We can’t qu We can’t just look the other way.

We can’t quote a man today and forget why he spoke tomorrow.

We can’t pretend one day a year that we are on the side of humanity.

But we can realize where we are, the work we have done and still have to do, and know that our actions speak much louder than our words.

And I’ve been spending more time finding out how to DO and less time talking.

Maybe we should all do the same. MLK did A LOT more than speak words for generations to quote when it’s convenient.

We can do better, and that’s what I think he was asking of us then, and even more so now.

Self care is not selfish. And today I needed it. Self care is not selfish.

And today I needed it. I didn’t feel it. I didn’t love my rides today and I certainly didn’t rock them. I felt bloated. I didn’t like the scale. I didn’t even like my outfit (although the back of this bra looks like a wrap dress and it’s 🤩).

But 50 minutes later I felt better about myself and my mind was in a better place. I even stopped snacking on all the crap food I was eating earlier in the day—and made dinner for the 5th time in a week.

I’m still not feeling like a badass body wise today, but at least I know I took care of me. And Ava got some kettlebell swings and push presses in too. 😂

Because I know we all have things to get off our c Because I know we all have things to get off our chest. And this is one of my favorite threads in a group over on Facebook.

What drove you crazy this week? Or this last year? Or even just this minute? People? A situation? Kids?

Take the space and time to let it go right here.

And know that I’m here for it.
No makeup. Just unwashed hair, fresh from a facia No makeup.

Just unwashed hair, fresh from a facial.

Literally no BS.
Because I am SICK of the BS.

Sick of belief in conspiracy theories.
Sick of belief in an authoritarian.
Sick of the lack of accountability.
Sick of the comparisons that are inadequate at best.
Sick of the attack on experts and those that experience things firsthand.
Sick of those standing up for bullies.
Sick of the excuses for poor character.

Stop putting on a facade of being a good person and start doing the things that back that up.
Now more than ever... It’s important to take ca Now more than ever...

It’s important to take care of yourself.

Don’t skip the workout. I know it’s mentally exhausting right now. But once you get started you’ll realize how much your mind needed that physicality to enjoy a good break.

Put on your favorite leggings (these are like butter and I have them in 3 colors now...if the shoe fits), get your wig on, and get your life together. Thank you @codyrigsby for keeping us motivated.

But seriously. Don’t give up on yourself when you feel like giving up on those around you. Make room for you—in your schedule and among the craziness.

We are enjoying some snow here in Texas, but that’s still not an excuse to get moving.

Let’s go people. We’ve got work to do. And you have to start with you.
There are good people. There are good things. But There are good people. There are good things. But pretty walls, pretty furniture, and a working AC don’t keep a home standing.

I know you’ve seen a lot of us say this, but if 11k of you are still listening to me, then I will continue to use my platform to attempt to change myself and my community at the same time.

This is us.
Stop denying it.
Stop the complacency.
Even if it’s one person at a time, we’ve got a lot of damn work to do.
